about me...

If you don't know me, Hi, I'm Kiki. Well, my actual name is Helen Christine Hayden. Most people call me Chris or Christine but my closest friends and family call me Kiki. My sister Terri couldn't say Christine and when she tried, it came out Kiki. That name has been mine for sixty one years and it's perhaps time everyone knows it so here I am, Konnect With Kiki.

When I was seven years old I had an autograph book. I asked my Dad for his autograph and this is what he wrote:

Helen Christine is her name, sometimes she is cheeky.

All the children for a game, prefer to call her Kiki!

It is the only thing I have with my Dad's handwriting on it and I memorized it from the day he wrote it. Who knew one day it would be reiterated on a blog website all these years later.

I grew up in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I am the fourth of five children. My Dad was born in Glasgow and my Mom's parents came to Canada as Hungarian immigrants. I always said I was a Hungry Scot and truly, I am. I've been hungry my whole life to learn and create. I remember constantly creating artwork, painting, drawing, writing. Both my Grandmas and my Aunty taught me how to knit, to sew, to crochet and embroider. I have always longed to be great at everything I've learned. Turns out I'm good a lot of things but great...wellllll......

let's stick with pretty good.

I also asked WHY? Why was my go to question about everything! Today, even with my life's experience I am constantly learning and wondering and asking why. I know I'll never have all the answers and a very wise young man once reminded me it's impossible to know everything. We learn new things every day, even about the things we thought we already knew.

I live in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada now. I have been married for 39 years and many of them spent apart from my husband David as he was a commercial pilot who is retired. We have two incredibly creative and talented children who live in Toronto, Canada. I miss them terribly, even after all these years they've been away from home. We also have a Grandfeline Fur Baby Maggie, who runs our household, as cats will do. Maggie is our daughter's cat and if you would like to learn about her I have a published children's book called The Littlest Kitty with the Biggest Heart. We also have a Grandcanine Fur baby Kaito, who is a big, handsome, goofy Gus and lives with our son.

I love to draw, paint, sing, watch great programming both documentaries and fiction. I have been learning to play piano for about 30 years now, it's not going well. Growing up I wanted to sing like Barbara Streisand. That didn't go so well either, although I could carry a tune and hold my own when I needed to. I took up Golf in my mid-forties and as someone who was quite athletic I can safely say it is the hardest sport I've ever learned.

Reading is a huge passion of mine along with writing. I believe literacy is the key to empowering everyone to be able to make educated and informed decisions for themselves. I am dedicated to spreading the word on how we can help heal our planet and live sustainably in a world that needs our undivided TLC and that is also connected to how we look after ourselves. When we are well, we can be better for others, for the planet and for those who will be coming long past our time here as ambassadors for their home.

So, that's me in short and over time you will certainly learn a lot more if you stick with me. I am officially a Blogger, an Artist and along with that a Children's Book Author and Illustrator and I have a new store called The Konnect With Kiki Shop that you can access right here on my website.

I think I can safely say I've learned a thing or two over the years but, more importantly, I still have so much more learning to do.

Thank you for joining me here. I can't wait to Konnect and learn about you too.

Love Kiki, xo
